Things to Do in Door County With Parents, Grandparents & Teens (That Everyone Actually Enjoys)

Planning a Door County vacation with multiple generations sounds easy… until everyone starts sharing what they want to do.

Grandparents may want beautiful scenery and a relaxing pace. Parents want an activity everyone will remember. Teens might be hoping for something more exciting than another stop where they just follow along.

Finding one activity that works for everyone can be the hardest part of planning a family trip.

That is exactly why Segway tours have become one of our favorite ways to help families experience Door County together.

The challenge: finding something everyone can enjoy

A lot of family vacations include three generations traveling together — grandparents, parents, and kids or teens.

The challenge is finding something that doesn’t leave someone out.

A long hike might not work for everyone. Younger family members may not be excited about another scenic drive. Some activities are designed for kids, while others are mostly enjoyed by adults.

The best memories usually happen when everyone gets to experience something new together.

The moment everyone becomes a beginner

One of our favorite parts of guiding Segway tours is watching families during training.

Many guests arrive saying the same things:

“I’m not sure I can do this.”

“My kids will probably figure this out faster than me.”

“I’m just here to watch.”

Then something fun happens.

Everyone becomes a beginner at the same time.

Grandparents surprise themselves. Parents relax. Teens who were unsure about the idea suddenly put their phones away and start having fun.

Before long, everyone is exploring Door County together.

A different way to experience Door County

Door County is known for beautiful scenery, but a Segway tour lets families experience those places instead of just driving past them.

Together you can explore places like:

• Peninsula State Park’s forests, overlooks, and historic areas
• Cave Point’s Lake Michigan shoreline and limestone cliffs
• The small towns, hidden areas, and stories that make Door County unique

Along the way, your guide shares local history, helps capture photos, and gives everyone a chance to simply enjoy the experience.

Memories across generations

Over the years, we have guided grandparents riding with grandchildren, parents celebrating milestones with their kids, and families creating traditions they come back to year after year. A few times a year we even have four generations gliding together!

The best part isn’t just seeing Door County.

It is hearing everyone talk afterward:

“I can’t believe Grandma did that.”

“I thought this would be scary, but it was actually easy.”

“That was my favorite thing we did on vacation.”

Those are the moments families remember.

Never ridden a Segway before? Perfect.

Most of our guests are first-time riders.

Before every tour, we take time for training and practice. There is no rush. Your guide works with each person until they feel comfortable.

You don’t need experience — just a willingness to try something new together.

Looking for a Door County activity everyone will talk about later?

Whether your family includes teenagers, parents, grandparents, or all three generations, a Segway tour gives everyone the chance to share the same adventure.

Because sometimes the best vacation memories happen when the whole family tries something new together.
